bring the joy in every kind of way

so I went to vote local yesterday -
I talked to the wife of one of the candidates -  nobody else was there -  she came across very nice and logical.
Apparently these local elections should be bipartisan but even in her own words she said that they're pressured to "fall in line" if they want the support of a party.
It really bothers me..
Though lately I'm pushed more left (obviously) - neither "side" is fitting me comfortably.

I'm getting the feeling a lot of people feel the same way and so in many cases instead of just being frustrated (like me) they just don't engage.
Problem is, I couldn't side with (or bitch about) anything if I didn't vote - plus I've read too many books and know just enough history to actually care about decisions that are being made on my behalf -  so yep I'm voting!

Dinner date night tonight - we had plans to go down tomorrow to see 1100 Springs. I was gonna go all out in a rockabilly/pinup gal outfit - but it's supposed to rain/hail/maybe tornado - oy *insertbummerfacehere*
I'm almost done with SKearsley's Mariana - just a little too much filler here. I forget how well she does with describing historic sites/times/buildings - almost to the point where the characters are secondary. Still, thoughtful, haunting - well written.

So in case we don't make it out and in tribute to this mighty fine country band - we 1100 Springs!

lotsa awkward people - it was awesome.

So ... the march for Science.
Admittedly, I'm not math-y or science-y, but I have an appreciation for their contributions! -
PLUS (not gonna lie), I was curious to what kinds of people would be there - so yep - IN!

On the way down, our uber driver lets it known that he's retired marine. I thanked him for his service
and he thanked me for the appreciation of his service.
This kind of threw me....
like..seriously? you've gone so underappreciated you feel the need to thank people who thank you? (...crazy. and sad that this is a reality)

Moving on, (to the March!) -
saw several sheldon cooper signs...
Breaking Bad "yeah! science bitch." sign.
Signs about rocks and space and ocean PH levels and other nerdy (...way over my head signs.)
Yep - there were several points where I questioned if people around me were even speaking English... "trajectories" and "pathways" and "bacillus" and "habitability"....ack!!! (*in my head*...i do not understand the words that are coming out of your mouth.)
There was a whole family of monty python/holy grail people (that were very popular) - with a graph of a cow catapult on their signs?
yeah....idk....

The reference is lost to me, I've not seen the movie...
But it was funny talking to the grandmother. She called her own people weird, saying she can't get her grandchild to dress for halloween but they go to a march for science all dressed as monty python characters and the kid jumps at the idea.
She's shaking her head laughing the whole time as she's taking pictures. ha!

My sign was a hit - Jamie told me it wasn't funny but it's me AND people laughed!!!....

There were definitely a whole lotta awkward people - it was awesome. Glad I went.

Roughriders game and Lonestar Park for birthday celebrations.
Didn't get to read much - I've started Susanna Kearsley Mariana.

And so we Weary Boys today - just 'cause

laughed out and over my head

so yes Saturday was a day of gals - Michaels, arts/crafts, lunch...and lots and lots of talking as  - girls are wont to do

Then I was home by 4 and did my first ever Netflix binge-watch.
A British show called Chewing Gum....
some of the British vernacular went over my head,
I ultimately had to put closed captions on cause I couldn't understand what the f they were saying

but lord....I laughed and laughed.
Not gonna lie - a couple times so hard I about peed my pants.
I'm twitter stalking the gal now....:0)

Attempted to go to the DMV and was (naturally) let down on expectations and the "online reservation" process - ugh...

March for Science Saturday - trying to think of a sign - I'll never be as clever as nerdy science-y people. grr.
Did post to "the group" that Rick Perry will be speaking as "Head of Energy" at the Earth Day Fair park downtown on Friday though - people are vacillating between the vomit emoji and high amusement/sarcasm.

Also (of course) read:
Larissa Ione - Z (just have to kinda think that she'll always think she comes in second...right?) and Razr (he didn't do all that much for me....this was one of those times I loved the gal and her world much more. Hope she continues there)
Victoria Aveyard - Red Queen - good potential YA but not gonna lie, I skimmed through some parts. It's a mish mash of a lot of dystopian others. And not always the best parts.  I'll continue if it comes around. No die hard here.
Finished #3 and #4 of the EJamesEssex sisters - Not my favorite series of hers. I was entertained. thank you.

Annnd I read an article today that said live music is dying - case it point Wormy Dog OKC is closing this month - I hope it's just a lull - I love live music. It's a huge stress relief.

To that end (poor choice of words) gonna go with a little old school Crystal Gayle

cheers to the freakin weekend!

Jamie's ditching me to go to the Arkansas Derby this weekend
...well not really ditching me I kinda nudged him to go.
I've landed another day of gals tomorrow - then house to myself! score

Annnd....now I feel kinda bad. He never wishes the house to himself. Like....never.
But lord, a gal just need a respite from the energy every once in a while.
I do miss him a little when he's gone.

Anyway...local elections are coming up. Signs are popping up.
He asked me the other day what my sign would look like if I was running for office.
I guess it got the wheels turning cause I woke up at 1:34 this morning thinking that I should look into running for city council.
Cause yeah -  why not? I can do it!!!!!!!!!

I've barely researched into it and find my rep is a lifer in the seat.
Goes away when she reaches her consecutive max and is back again.
She's running uncontested.
Politics in Texas is no joke.

we vented husbands and politics. it was quite cathartic.

Meant to go to the Mega March but stayed and talked with my oldest best gal pal instead.
Every 6 months or so we try to catch up on everything in a few hours.
I swear our attention span and staying on topic is that of a squirrel.
or chipmunk?
Yes we vented husbands and politics, jobs etc.  it was cathartic. I highly recommend.
We also saw "Get Out" - she dragged me - i'm not a fan of paying for things that scare me. I had a Stephen King/Dean Koontz phase a long time ago. I'm good.
mostly suspenseful/macabre -   eye opening in a way but generalizing in others. Again, I'm disheartened, 'cause all I could think is "there goes another one a girl ruined" I'll stick to my romance and HEA. thank you.

Back to the march, most everyone I know look at me funny and/or think that marching is pointless or isn't important -
I think it has a point and it is important - plus it's quintessential American. Someone said this:
They seem very similar to pep rallies the day of a football game. The pep rallies don't actually play the game and they certainly don't win the game. But they do:
a) generate "team spirit", and
b) show the team all the people who support them, which will in turn c) increase likely game attendance later that day, which then
d) buoys the spirits of the players who are actually playing the game, making it more likely that they will win.
I don't see why I wouldn't attend more through my lifetime.

we saw Charley Crockett in Bedford.
it's like a whole other land Bedford? kinda fun.
As far as he went, I liked him - a little odd and awesome blend of old country and new orleans sound. Official fan. Plus you have to wonder how life-shaping it is to know you've come from a revered historical figure...

We went to see Jason Boland @ L&W and it was freaking packed - I've lost my interest for seeing more well-known bands at that venue. He still sounded good.

Finished #2 (good - as always - until the "you don't really love me" part. Ugh. he said it, he meant it. move on!)  and half through #3 of Essex EJames.
Also side re-reading LIone's Hades.
Tried reading "The Nest" - lost interest.

just gonna pay my tab, roll on home.

I'm seeing the term "Latinx" popping up - I get the inclusivity thing but I likely won't use it for personal reference - I'm fine with Latina. American, Texan, I'm fine saying that I'm from Mexican descent. Shit I'm even proud part-Canadian. I am all of those.
Also, I think with labeling yourself too much you start losing self (and potential of a better self). Whateva.

Annnnnd,  if I understand correctly, in forcing the supreme court nominee through - the US Senate majority just weakened the Senate holistically to try to look strong?

On the other side - I've started getting emails addressing me as a "fellow Dem" - and though currently I affiliate more with them then ever before - it bothers me. I'm not a fan of the label.

Still (in my current phase of roller coaster) - I'm just watching.
the tables turn. again no compromise...and we go further down the rabbit hole.

Going to Roughriders opening day tonight.

Finished Eloisa James' - #1 Essex sister book - I totally didn't realize that there was a whole EJames series I missed!.....and I call myself a fan!!! - This one read much more Jane Austen-ish.  I always like the brooders. She (both) does them so well.

And we Randy Rogers

the hating game

Saw/read a recap of my state reps "almost secret" town hall from Friday - it must be a huge learning curve to go from pretty much doing what you want, to being questioned about mostly everything. Times are a-changed. I've certainly have anyway...and still it seems I'm in the super minority of people interested in policy around these parts.

The more things change though....
Friday night Randy Rogers band - I forgot he got famous and was shocked at all the people there. He sounded as good as I remember. Good on him. I looked really cute with my boots - with that said my days of wearing higher heeled shoes/boots to see a band are pretty much done. I can't hang.
Monkey noodle/dumplings was good. Deep Ellum was bonkers. Uber was $117 to leave so we hopped the train for a stop and got home on $26 from an uber there.

Saturday crawfish boil - fun times...such a mess.

Rangers opening day tailgating yesterday - more fun times, it's just so freaking crowded now. bleh. I guess as with most everything else lately, it doesn't feel like it should be baseball season yet. Plus, our bullpen....*smh*

Finished The Hating Game - Sally Thorne - can totally see why I'd heard about it from different sources. the slow burn at it's limit. Throwback Day/Hudson/Montague/Capulet but modern feel. good get.
