a story (from a gal on the sideline)

the charity event at the frisco ballpark was this weekend, jamie pretty much single-handedly busted his ass to organize it (I'm constantly baffled at the disorganization of the organization) but hey...they raised $1600+ for Children's hospital/Camp Moss. It's something to be proud of.

It was freaking hot outside there for a bit, but these babies and their families come up in their light blue shirts and didn't complain one bit.
In fact, the parents kept saying "thank you, thank you" getting emotional at seeing their child happy.
Everything they have, they put back into the healthcare of their child.
So it's one thing to give money -  but it's amazing to witness (and have just a little bitty part of) people enjoying their time together.

Finished
The Millionaire Makeover - Naima Simone - it's just....she just falls right back like that? Still, I finished it...that says something....
Riveted: - Jay Crownover - same kind of girl as the one above - so (too?) nice....but just because it isn't what I would do, doesn't mean it doesn't fit the story...i'd read more of hers, just not eager to do so.
Prisoner of My Desire - Johanna Lindsey - actually not finished yet but ...so yeah i forgot about her books and the reality of the terrible history times. Set in that time I don't guess it's far fetched but lord...halfway through and it's a little overkill for this being a romance genre. Really though I can't help to think that Kresley Cole read this book and then wrote her Demon King book (and that book's a favorite soo)....

oy - just vaguely overheard a co-worker that I've known for 10 years re-telling a joke from one of her friends (who's boyfriend is black) with the word "n*****" in it. And she said it.

I don't consider myself a touchy person but  from my point of view,  you say it, even in the context of a story (and especially if you're not Black) you just lowered my perception of you - you make yourself look uneducated and ignorant. I told her I didn't hear the story but now I don't want to hear the story -
I think she took the hint, and we moved on *smh*
Maybe it's just me getting older but I've kinda had it up to "here" with not calling out things and just going with what's they might perceive as "nothing important". I mean...I don't think I'm being confrontational (that never solves anything anyway) but seriously....

I'll remember you...

Did a whole lotta nothin' this weekend and it was grand.

Finished Christi Caldwell's  1 and 2 of the Heart of the Duke series,
Tried the first of Sophie Jordan's Forgotten Princess books - but apparently I've already read it.
Finished Johanna Lindsay's - Defy Not the Heart - another I think I read a long time ago?...big difference from the regency restraint I've been mostly reading to the 12th century. It's not that I didn't like it...but I did skip a little.
Then, also re-read Christina Lauren's

...just found out that my grandfather died this morning.
The last of my grandparents....I don't have many memories of him, (12 children - one of them, my mom - means many many grandchildren) there was just too many of us for us to really be that close. But I do have a few memories.
The one that stands out most is 5 year old me, wearing a pretty yellow dress and his calloused hand holding my hand, walking me to the corner store to get me a candy)
Another is when I first introduced him to Jamie. We walk in, I say "Hi Ito, this is Jamie." He walks up to Jamie, pats Jamie's belly and says, "You like beer. I have Miller Light. Then I will show you my machines." And so my husband (boyfriend at the time) fell in love with him... not too long after he fell in love with me.
I got to talk to him a little more a few years ago when we were in El Paso. Just him, me and Jamie.  A World War II vet, a machinist at White Sands missile range, a garage and yard full of gears and screws and machines and cars.  A funny man. A man that provided for his family. I eat ice cream with a fork because he did. Thank you my Ito - I'm glad I got to tell you and talk to you and really see you...even if just for a little while -  just a few memories, but good ones - I'll remember you...

Destin! & my favorite donut (better than talking about tomorrow's surgery)

a lot going on....follow up (with me thinking everythings fine) appointment today leads to me going into eye surgery tomorrow. He said water's gotten passed the laser and closer to the center of the eye which is bad news bears. Doing a buckle or some such.
Jamie's pissed - he thinks they shouldn't have done anything in the first place.
I couldn't let a retinal hole AND a second opinion saying I needed the laser go though!
And so that's the situation. I really hoped the laser would fix it...instead it sped the process...ugh....

moving on (cause what can i do)
Destin was really great - didn't think 12 of us could do it without someone going beyond getting on someones nerves.
But all went well. I think the 2.5 days was just enough.
Mom loved the Sail Away...I thought she would.
Again I say...want a family trip?...go to Destin...they know how to do it.
Donut Hole donuts in Destin....yum...if I'd never had Voodoo donuts they'd be my favorite.

Read Lauren Layne's - Blurred lines - i like the friends to more story. Friends has a better chance. I'll read more of hers.
Lisa Kleypas - Worth Any Price - love at his first sight...i forget how she carries the story well though. Good.
Tried Johanna Lindsey One Heart to Win - oy no go. I know I've liked something of hers in the past though...just can't remember what right now.

Gotta go...work and already not enough time with travel and this eye stuff.

don't think I'm just his little wife

So he got home at midnight, loud and obnoxious, and then cautiously tries to judge how mad I am at him this morning *roll my eyes* heaven help me.

Husband, forget love, it's a good thing you're my best friend cause I don't like you very much when I have to put up with this shenanigans.

It's a little strange, I mean we 've been together a long while now and there's still some instances that I think he forgets who he's dealing with.

His past girlfriends allowed him to steamroll over them and even now it seems he's surprised when I call him out on things.

Oh well - on a side note I've got an Eloisa James book in queue but I've gotten into the science fiction/futuristic/fantasy mood and I don't feel like testing another (yet another) book out right now.

I'm re-reading Johanna Lindsay's Warrior's Woman.

I think it's one of my favorites? It's certainly not "deep thoughts" reading but for a little exaggerated adventure supported with the clash of two totally different characters - this one will do.
