the livid and fun tipsy kind

So my sister texted on Friday -
a friends mom got pulled over for no obvious reason by Dallas ICE.
In Spanish, they asked her for her "papers".
In English, she responded "I have my driver's license and insurance, I'm assuming those are the "papers" you're referring to? And why was I pulled over?".

I'm livid - this keeps happening. Here. Down the street.

This is America yes? Land of the Free? Why the F is the federal government pulling people over for no valid reason, in Dallas no less?

The “devil” in me wants to look my most Mexican (meaning walk out the door), “steal” Jamie’s truck (cause I don’t think people would take my MINI as threatening enough) down the street to where they’re pulling people over, not show my ID and only speak Spanish in response to questions just to document all of this.

What bothers me too is Texas...my Texas as a state...is allowing all this. It's one thing to target undocumented criminals...it's a whole other thing to just be ok with native Texans being subjected to searches just because they "might be" illegal.....I guess we're not as independent as I thought? Tell ya what...my state pride gradually lessens daily here. *smh*

And so Friday night I posted a warning on my fb for people who look like me or darker to beware of getting singled out.

and then proceeded to get a little tipsy.

Our bartender's shift ended, we accepted his (and his girlfriends?) invitation to a restaurant bar across the street and so we spent another couple of hours talking with them
out longer than we meant to be out. (oy)
Still I like the impromptu  lengthy conversations with strangers. They're usually fun.

Of course, my (very republican and combative) cousin responded with his usual political mockery to my aforementioned FB post.
So through the night -  and since I was tipsy (and since it was on my own FB page) - I engaged in my cousins mockery with my (honest) playful responses.
After 60ish "comments" (70% of them being his ) he switched to memes and name-calling and so I thus, stopped engaging.
How boring and disappointing to degrade that way.
Boo. (didn't take away my buzz though!!!!)

Saturday Jamie and I basically recovered and went to M and S's going away dinner.
Georgia - I'd almost envy them if it wasn't so freaking humid hot....

Yesterday we recovered more, which means book therapy for me!
Finished:
Friction - Sawyer Bennett - law battle book...I mostly liked it!
Royally Matched - Emma Chase - this one, way lagged behind in chemistry than #1. Still liked it but just kinda disappointing.
Devil in Spring - Lisa Kleypas - lost character just a little in some cases (IMO) but refreshing. Good read.

So we Miranda Lambert's new one

but hey...I got to check out. And I'm tan.

we've had quite the adventure.
11pm friday night before we're to leave on our vacation Jamie got stomach sick.
1pm Saturday I convinced him to go to the doc in the box. He got a shot and 4 different kinds of medication.
We woke up at 3am Sunday to catch our flight.
Land in Anguilla - Jamie can't eat anything for 48 hours. (a noted "best" for people who love to eat and he can't.) But we made it.

Disconnected from news/social media and just beached for a few days. Lovely...lovely...lovely as before.
(Note for next (next) time - definitely ferry is the way to go from SXM. $20taxi + $20 + $5 departure pp.
Back $20+$25 departure.)

Jamie's still not feeling great, we change our flights to come back a couple days early and now I'm feeling sick. I was so nauseous getting on the plane I physically carried a "motion discomfort" bag the whole day til we got home. Really close calls at some points. Not the greatest feeling to feel trapped on a plane and carrying a "bag".
Got home and now allergies got me.
Oh and it took us half a day to get in an argument about politics. Seriously, my sister texted me that the city of FB down the road started pulling people over randomly to check their legal status!
So now I'm glad I have this day off to recover.  I'm sitting here eyes swollen and snotty...
but hey...I got to check out for a few days of amazing-ness.
And I'm tan!

And I read:
On Second Thought - yes of course I liked it. It just I missed the connection with the guys more than usual.
Seven Minutes in Heaven - she just seemed much more mature than him. Good story, as always, just not in my top favorite couple of hers.
Nobody's Baby but Mine & Heaven, Texas - yeah...she treads that line of inappropriate that makes me uncomfortable.
Wait For It - Mariana Zapata -  with this one I've read all her books so far. She's up there as a favorite now. I'm def all about her older guys.
Rhythm, Chord Malychin - MZ  - immaturish, lower on my list of hers. Still good.
Under Locke - MZ -  so I just found out what MC meant last week. Not my genre but yeah this was a winner overall (and sexy times whew...)

Back on the wagon....

the never disappoint(ers)

We saw 1100 springs Friday - I was going through band withdrawals. They never disappoint.
Didn't even leave the house Saturday.
Sunday - Joined a "huddle". organizing - low key superbowl with w's, mainly distracted through most of it.
Leave for vacation Sunday! - have EJames new one in queue.

Pulled in lotsa directions - Devos decision just came down - I have no kids and know nothing about whats going on in the world of education besides the taxes I pay into it. All my teacher pals/associates are really not ok with this decision so I'm going to guess it's yet another not a good one.

Finished
Nora Roberts - Island of Glass - typical NR fashion and almost exactly like the other series.
Kristan Higgins - On Second Thought - just love her and how filled out her people are. Not my favorite but (again) she never disappoints.

colonel mustard and a fax party (almost) in the ocean

Last weekend feels forever ago.
First go at Austrian food  with the M's -  yum.

Parents came back into town - my nephew was Colonel Mustard in a Clue play. He barely talks but can sing and he's in a school  play!!? And he kisses a girl. I was pretty doggone surprised.

and I fax partied one of my senator's. 'Cause things just don't feel right!!! I'm not from El Paso, raised partly in Calgary by a Border Patrol agent who worked in US customs - dodging people running across I-10 on my way to work downtown in high school -  to not have an opinion about immigration. We're going wrong...we're going wrong....

*sigh* I'll be on vacation in two weeks...

Tried a few contemp's  - looking for the easy, breezy HEA (for obvious reasons)
not sure if it's a cultural thing, I'm guessing it is...but I just wouldn't handle situations like the gals in these stories.
Good Girl - Lauren Layne - she should've been mean back...but really.
Man Candy - Melanie Harlow - another wanna be hardtoughgirl but not. eh.
Easy Love - Kristen Proby - this was a book club assignment. I love the New Orleans feel but from the get go, characters didn't really do much for me. Didn't get passed a few chapters.

Bought the new KHiggins and EJames. Good news on Jamie's job search...maybe?

And so we Bobby Keen today with a undocumented immigrant story....
